Emailaddressc.rego@mmu.ac.ukWho am I?

Why do I teach?

I derive enormous satisfaction in seeing individual students develop and gain confidence during their time at MMU. Advising and guiding students to fulfil their potential and go on to fantastic jobs or great research careers is a pleasure!

Words of wisdom

For these things shall I strive,

A keen eye,

A seeing hand,

A body that fails not,

An arm that is strong and willing to serve,

A spirit that searches for truth and that loves the silent places,

A heart that is courageous and bears goodwill to all.

(Adapted from a Native American Creed)

How I’ll teach you

Physical Chemistry at all levels, specialising in molecular spectroscopy.

My courses focus on applying fundamental physical chemistry knowledge to problem solving. Lectures are interactive and I welcome students to challenge me and perceived wisdom!

Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) of carbon-based materials Dr. Rego's research in the fields of microwave spectroscopy and Chemical Vapour Deposition has resulted in over 70 papers in refereed journals and is internationally recognised. CVD processes are of major industrial interest with one of the attractions being the ability to form hard carbon films. The research focuses on functional applications for polycrystalline and nanocrystalline thin diamond films, such as, the control of surface morphology and grain size for optical applications, development of diamond based electrodes for electrochemical applications and biomedical diamond coatings, e.g. diamond coated dental burs. CVD techniques are also used to synthesise functionalised fullerenes. Our novel method has enabled significant quantities of hydrogenated and methylated fullerenes to be synthesised for the first time by gas phase reactions. More recent work involves the growth of graphene films onto copper substates by CVD.
